Post-Event Feedback Surveys That People Actually Answer

The post-event feedback survey format that gets 70%+ response rates — two questions, 48 hours, and a visible action loop that builds trust in the survey itself.

Post-event feedback — two simple questions collected and turned into improvements

The post-event feedback survey is where good intentions go to die: twelve questions, sent a week later, answered by 15% of attendees, read by no one. The working version is almost embarrassingly small — and that’s why it works.

The format: two questions, 48 hours

  1. What was the best part?
  2. What should we change next time?

Optionally, a 1–5 rating for a trackable score across events. That’s the whole survey. Response rates for a two-question pulse sent within 48 hours routinely triple those of long-form surveys sent the following week — and the open-text answers carry more signal than any Likert grid.

Send it in the channel the event was organized in (Slack, Basecamp), not as an email link. Distance-to-the-ask kills response rates everywhere, including here.

Reading the answers

Tag each response with a theme as you read — food, schedule, venue, travel, content. Three or four themes will dominate.

Beware the loud minority: one vivid complaint reads bigger than ten quiet satisfactions. The rating average and theme counts are your anchor; anecdotes are color.

The part everyone skips: closing the loop

Feedback systems die when answering feels pointless. The antidote is public: “You said the schedule was too packed — next offsite has free afternoons.” One visible change per event is enough to keep response rates healthy forever. Open the next planning cycle with the action list.

Make it automatic

The 48-hour window is exactly the moment the planner is most exhausted and most likely to skip the send. That’s an argument for automation: TeamRally sends the pulse when an event ends and attaches results to the event record, so the loop closes even when you’re recovering.
